This film plays like a long and very successful Twilight Zone episode. Carnival of Souls was released in 1962, having been produced and directed by Harvey Herk for an estimated $33,000, the movie failed to gain widespread attention at the time of it's original release, however the interim has seen it become a cult classic. Set to an organ score by Gene Moore, Carnival of Souls relies more on atmosphere than on special effects to create its mood of horror.
