Three men whose airplane crash lands on an island after being guided there by a mysterious radio transmission discover that there's more to this island than meets the eye. After making their way out of the jungle, they find themselves at the mansion of one Dr. Sangre, who takes them in for the night. Meanwhile, Dr. Sangre has used a combination of voodoo and hypnotism to turn the local people into an army of zombies, which he plans to use to gather secret defense information for the axis powers.
The role of Dr. Victor Sangre was designed for Bela Lugosi. When he became unavailable, negotiations ensued to obtain Peter Lorre for the part, but a deal could not be reached. Veteran character actor Henry Victor was signed just prior to the date of filming.
